Teeter Totter Sailors, TM055

Teeter Totter Sailors

I heard the sound of street organs, whistling bells, strange animal sounds. Turning a corner I was aware that part of the docks were filled with carnival contraptions. Gaudily painted panels, turbaned tents, raised platforms with bizarrely clothed creatures of all races and sexes. Right in front of me I saw a large filled basin with a seesaw positioned above, on each end perched a sailor. By their unsteady looks they had been gallivanting and had a tipple or two too many. From the platform an extravagantly mustached and dressed MC was in the act of handing both a bamboo pole. He motioned for silence. Traveling fairs have been around for ages and were popular diversions for children, sailors and landlubbers alike.

Crafted of metal and hand painted with a distressed finish. Each one comes with a numbered metal tag confirming that these are made in limited numbers. Start a collection of nautical Balance Toys. Use the wallmounts or floorstands to create an interesting nautical decor look in any room.

A Little Teeter Totter Sailors Information

Our tars are wearing the classic sailor suit first inspired by the Royal Navy uniform. Until the mid-19th century, military uniforms lacked uniformity and the styles and even colors could vary substantially based on the period and whim of the clothing contractor and vessel captain.

Originally the sailor suit was conceived in England and it soon became an internationally accepted style. The timing coincided with the classic enlisted man's uniform which was first worn by the Prince of Wales in 1846 when the Royal Navy began to standardize naval uniforms. The classic suit has changed very little over time, although the pants worn with it have changed. There have been many variations on the classic clothing style first worn by British princes and later by commoners throughout Europe and America.

Our Teeter Totter Sailors balance toy is completely hand made from recycled metal, hand forged and painted. Each piece is hand waxed in the final stage to give it that warm and subtle shine. Colorful and whimsical nautical decor. A beautiful addition to your home, or as a gift!
