Merry Christmas to you!
The nutcracker is a beautiful thing, a combination of a useful tool with a human appearance. Dating from the mid-18th century, they were originally known as nut-biters. For some reason, I'm more comfortable with nutcracker. In the toy making center of Sonneberg, in the Thuringian Forest in Germany, as far back as 1735 there is mention of these leverage tools. In the dictionary of "High German" begun in the 1830's, by the Brothers Grimm, the term "Nussknacker" was defined as "often in the form of a misshaped little man, in whose mouth the nut, by means of a lever or screw, is cracked open."
Whatever the history, who doesn't equate this wonderful little soldier with Christmas. As for our little soldier, this Balance Toy is completely hand made from recycled metal, hand forged and painted. Each piece is hand waxed in the final stage to give it that warm and subtle shine. Colorful and whimsical decor; seasonal or year round. A beautiful addition to your home, or as a gift!
