A Little Information about the artist, Glenn C. Matthews

Glenn C. Matthews was born in the seafaring town of Victoria, British Columbia. He began his marine art career in the early '70s painting in oil and watercolor by telling visual stories of ships and the sea. Numerous trips to Hawaii established him as a member of the Lahaina Art Society and from there his paintings fanned out all over the world.

After some years, Glenn extended his choice of subject matter but has always concentrated on careful drawing, close attention to values (the contrasting lights and darks) and a bold approach to color.

As well as this beautiful Limited Edition Print, some of Glenn's original watercolors are also available. Details can be obtained through Nautical Decor...and more.

Marine Art, Limited Edition Print

Glenn C. Matthews paints nautical scenes depicting historic examples of man's struggle with the sea. This painting illustrates a classic case of the many square-riggers that were caught in storms on a lee shore. The only chance of survival was to maintain all sail and run for the beach in order to prevent capsizing. Hundreds of sailing ships were lost in this way along the east and west coasts of North America.
